Aramis - 9
Producer, Guitars, Bass, Drums, Keys, Vocals
This was recorded mostly over a three week stretch at Ben Zaidi’s house, my co-producer on it. Aramis had a bunch of demos and we all voted on our favorites which eventually would become the nine songs on here. This one is really special to me. It reminds me of some of the first music I fell in love with and how it felt to get a new CD and slowly learn it over weeks of listens. At the heart of it all is Aramis’ song writing. I love how he tells stories and how he can achieve this sentimentality without ever being saccharine.
I also think that recording at Ben’s forced us to make more interesting decisions. “Spike Jonze in 98” could have been this big rock song in a proper studio, but all we had was a tiny kick, snare, hi-hat and a couple mics. It ended up being this upright bass driven track that I don’t think we would have ended up with if we recorded anywhere else. Limitations aren’t always a bad thing!
